Ordinal Numbers and Something

Forming ordinals is way too easy. Just pick the number you want and add -tte for the ones ending in a vowel and -te if it ends with -n. It does apply to every number except bir "one" and ni "two", that becomes riszon "first" and szeni "second", respectively.

  • sa → satte (3rd)
  • ho → hotte (4th)
  • go → gotte (5th)
  • so → sotte (6th)
  • ste → stette (7th)
  • ka → katte (8th)
  • ku → kutte (9th)
  • ju → jutte (10th)
  • niju → nijutte (20th)
  • saju → sajutte (30th)
  • han → hante (100th)
  • sen → sente (1000th)
  • miliona → milionatte (1000000th)

For compound numbers, the rule is same:

  • ju-sa (13) → ju-satte (13th)
  • niju-sa (23) → niju-satte (23rd)
  • hosen-goju (450) → hosen-gojutte (450th)
  • usen-kuhan-kuju-ku (1999th) → usen-kuhan-kuju-kutte (1999th)
  • nisen-ju-go (2015)  → nisen-ju-gotte (2015th)

Some expressions on numbers:

  • Mai gotte iv → every fifth year. The word mai is used within time expressions only.
  • Mitriszon elsatte ivsince the first until the third year. Note the prefixes mit- "from" and el- "to" attached just onto the numbers because they are acting as noun extensions in relation with the noun iv "year", avoiding its necessity of being repeated.
